I can’t sleep, something’s all over me
Greasy, insomnia please release me
(Lyrics taken from Insomnia by Faithless)
They say sleep deprivation also known as sleeplessness (nice word) has many negative effects that include daytime fatigue, anxiety, and mood swings. Now then, without intentionally aiming for no sleep, how can I overcome jetlag quickly? Well adapting to the light local time is a start, but not necessarily easy. Sleeping pills don’t come into question. I guess it’s patience, allowing myself to fully embrace local times, and doing plenty of sports. I remember why I decided to travel before the convention in Brisbane. It was to get into the zone and be able to fully function on the spot.
I am an avid (i.e. enthusiastic) member of the 5 am club, and this morning I was back in my routine. Monday, 5 am, yoga mat, coffee, deep work, breakfast, more deep work. And I love the Pomodoro technique, which means slicing your day into pieces (imagine a tomato). It takes a whole lot of focus to be focused. And once you’re focused, it takes a whole lot of discipline to stay that way long enough to make impact. Puh. And I can see so many possible distractions that could lure me away: back to bed, the pool, a third coffee, planning my day, or publishing another blog post (caught red-handed).
